The best time for self-driving tours on the G331 National Highway each year is from June to October. After October, snow begins to fall in the Kanas Forest Area and the Daxinganling Forest Area, making it unsuitable for self-driving activities.

The colorful Kanas, the golden Populus euphratica forest in Ejina Banner, the beautiful autumn colors of the Aershan Mountains, and the forests of the Greater Khingan Mountains are all dyed. Here is the most beautiful autumn scenery in my country!

National Highway 331

National Highway 331 is a border road from Dandong City, Liaoning Province to Habahe County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The total length is approximately 9,333 kilometers, passing through six provinces and autonomous regions: Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, and Xinjiang.

At present, the G331 national highway, from Mangui to Mohe, is closed for limited time during summer road construction. From 20 pm to 5 am the next morning, cars with less than seven seats can pass. The road is closed during the day.

Some sections of National Highway 331 that are not open to traffic, such as Fuyun-Mulei Populus Forest and Naomao Lake-Suhongtu, are under construction and widening. You can take a detour when walking two sections.

4. Xinjiang Barkol travel guide

Because Xinjiang is full of scenery, as long as you hit the road, you will never be disappointed, and self-driving is also one of the ways to experience the beauty of Xinjiang. Today I recommend 5 small and beautiful self-driving routes in Xinjiang.

1. Northern Xinjiang is basically a loop from the east to the west. The route is the Huoshao Mountain and Situ Conservation Area in Zhundong – the surrounding area of Keketuohaiji in Fuyun – Ulungu Lake – Burqin Colorful Beach – Jiadengyu Kanas – Urho in Karamay; (You can transfer to Tianshan West Ring Road at this time.)

Kanas, a paradise on earth, is relatively well developed. It is beautiful in several seasons, each with its own beauty. You can check it out according to your preferences. If you only have one chance to go, generally choose autumn. The most beautiful place should be visited when it is at its most beautiful.

2. The west ring road of Tianshan Mountains, Ili area and Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture. The route is basically Sailimu Lake – Horgos Port – Yining, Huocheng (see lavender from mid-to-late June to early July) – Zhaosu and Xia Te – Kalajun, Qiongkush Tai–Tangbula–Gonnas–Nalati–Bayinbuluke; (At this time, you can take the southern section of the 217 Duku section to Kuqa.)

The loop route to the west of the Tianshan Mountains is basically a tour to Yili. The grassland in Yili is most beautiful in spring and summer. It can be beautiful from April to July. It is basically a nympho route. If you arrive early, you can see the apricot blossoms in the Ili Valley around April 15th; if you go in late May or early June, you can watch the red flowers blooming in the Tianshan Mountains; from mid-June to early July, you can see the lavender in Huocheng, and in mid-July Zhaosu rapeseed and alfalfa. In addition to flowers, the grasslands in the Yili area are also beautiful. The famous Nalati and Bayinbuluk, and my favorites are Kalajun, Tangbula and Kuldening. You can see wild flowers in the grassland in spring and summer, and feel the desolation in autumn. The time for route 2 can be as short as 7 days, or as long as 20 days in each grassland. It is a route that is completely resourceful and frugal.

3. The northern line of the Southern Xinjiang Great Ring, that is, the northern line of the Silk Road, Kuqa, Aksu and Kashgar districts. The route is basically Kuqa’s Big and Small Dragon Ponds – Kuqa Grand Canyon – Baicheng Thousand Buddha Caves – back to Kuqa. On the way there are Kizilgaha, Subash, Yanyangou and Yadan Landform – Aksu’s A Shitu – Kashgar City – Ta County along the way, sand mountains and lakes, Muztagh, Gonggar Jiubie Peak, Karakul Lake, Princess Fort, Stone City – Khunjerab – back to Kashgar

4. The southern route of the Southern Xinjiang Ring Line is Kashgar – Maigaiti, the birthplace of Daolang – Yingjisha, Xiaodao – return to Shache and go to Yecheng – G315 to Hotan – Minfeng.

In Minfeng you have two choices,

A. Take the desert highway to Lunnan, take Luntai, Korla, and go to Turpan;

B. After G315, go to Qiemo, Ruoqiang, Loulan, and go to Turpan to experience the extreme desolation, a tomb-robbing and lost-city version.

5. Turpan (this scenic spot needs no introduction) – Shanshan (the nearest desert to the city) – Hami – Barkol, there are grasslands and lakes – Mulei (Jiangbulake) – Tianchi (this scenic spot, you can not go)

Populus euphratica is most beautiful in southern Xinjiang from mid-October to November. There is basically no time limit even in the deserts of southern and eastern Xinjiang, the Gobi, the Pamirs and the Karakoram. The wind has been strong this year, and the leaves of Populus euphratica have fallen in many places. If Route 3 starts from Urumqi by car, it will take 10 days, and the daily driving cost is more than 700, which is very tiring. If conditions permit, you can fly to Kuqa, and it is better to rent a car and drive to Kashgar. Route 6 in Dongjiang only takes 5 days, or it can take 7 days if it is longer. Line 4 takes 2-3 days. Route 5 A takes 4 days; B takes almost the same time.
