What should you pay attention to when traveling in spring?

Although spring is the golden season for tourism, it is also the season when diseases are most common. Medical experts warn not to be intoxicated with the scenery and neglect your own health. Professor Zeng Guang, chief scientist of epidemiology at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention,

made ten suggestions on what you should pay attention to when traveling in spring:

1. Pay attention to cold protection and warmth according to weather changes; pay attention to a balanced diet to enhance your own immunity.

2. Participate in more outdoor activities and reduce the time spent in crowded places. However, you should exercise moderately and take adequate rest. Going to a place with good air quality can actively reduce respiratory diseases in itself. Try to go hiking, going to the beach, or going to the forest.

3. Strengthen personal hygiene and wash hands frequently to prevent intestinal infectious diseases. Wash your hands after sneezing or coughing, and wipe them with a clean towel or paper towel after washing. When going out to stay in a hotel or inn, use your own toiletries.

4. When visiting tourist attractions and scenic spots, try to avoid getting close to animals and birds. Because research has found that many diseases are related to the spread of animals and birds.

5. Open the windows for a while before going to bed at night to maintain indoor air circulation and keep the air fresh.

6. In terms of diet, there should be fewer dinner parties, no smoking, and less drinking.

7. If you or your travel companions find symptoms of fever, diarrhea, cough, shortness of breath, or high fever that persists during travel, you must decisively terminate the trip and seek medical treatment on site. Be sure to obey the instructions of doctors and medical staff. Patients should consciously isolate themselves from their traveling companions, which is beneficial to their own health recovery and is also a necessary social morality.

8. Common diseases when traveling are mainly digestive tract diseases and respiratory diseases such as colds, coughs, diarrhea, etc. Just prepare some appropriate medicines. If you take medicine by yourself, you must be sure enough and do not abuse antibiotics.

9. You should “bring” a mask when traveling, but you don’t need to “wear it” at all times. Generally, you don’t need to wear it. You should wear a mask if you have some abnormal symptoms or if your travel companions have abnormal symptoms.

10. When traveling, you can carry some brochures such as travel instructions with you. The knowledge about travel hygiene in them can be used as a reference when you cannot contact a medical unit in time.
