Taiyuan Juewei Mountain Scenic Area


Juiwei Mountain Scenic Area is located 24 kilometers northwest of Taiyuan City, the capital of Shanxi Province. Since ancient times, there have been green pines and birches and cypresses all over the slopes.
In particular, the sumac trees all over the mountains and plains, which turn red early after frost, and “juewei red leaves” in autumn are one of the eight ancient scenic spots in Taiyuan.

Duofu Temple is located on Juiwei Mountain.
The temple was founded in 786 (the second year of Zhenyuan in Tang Dynasty). Li Keyong, a great general of the Tang Dynasty from Shatuo, and Li Cunxu, Emperor Zhuangzong of the later Tang Dynasty, and his sons once came here to worship Buddha. The existing stone stele in 1615 (the 43rd year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty) in the temple has the record of “the building is far away from the Han and Tang Dynasties”. Now it is a key cultural relics protection unit at the municipal level.

On the top of the mountain in the southeast of Duofu Temple, there is a stupa. It was originally a building in the Song Dynasty. The base and platform of the tower are made of bricks and stones. On the front wall of the stone cave dwelling downstairs of the scripture collection of Duofu Temple, there is an inscription “Fu Qingzhu’s reading place” in the late Qing Dynasty, and there are still Fu Shan’s left ink.
Many people mistakenly think that this is the “Frost Red Niche” (nunnery). In fact, this is the place where monks borrowed books to study before Fu Shan built the Frost Red Niche. Around 1642 (the fifteenth year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty), Fu Shan once built a nunnery near Duofu Temple, named Qingyang Nunnery, and after entering the Qing Dynasty, it was also called Shuanghong Nunnery. It was built by Fu Shan for reading and writing books.
