The old site of Shanghai Xitong Girls’ School is near Zhapu Road, Hongkou District. Inside the courtyard wall of “Shanghai Industrial Equipment Installation Company” at No. 380 Tanggu Road, there is a building with a symmetrical structure, clear water exterior walls, red brick joints, coupon-style lintels, and a sloped roof. , the Western-style buildings with red flat tiles are very eye-catching.

The former site of Xitong Girls’ School has a construction area of ​​864 square meters. It is a single-storey brick and wood structure, arranged symmetrically, facing south from the north. It is a typical verandah-style building, which has the architectural style characteristics of Queen Anne in England.
There are two types of continuous coupon-column-style verandas, round coupons and oblate coupons. The bottom of the pillars is large and the top is small. Ionic column decoration, triangular gable wall in the middle, protruding slash-shaped dormer windows at the back, red tile roof, exquisite brick carvings on the blue brick wall, wooden doors and windows, and oblate red brick decorations on the lintel. West side porch juts out. The floor of the corridor is paved with floral tiles, and the interior is paved with eucalyptus flooring.


“Xitong Girls’ School” is one of the public schools founded by Hanbili.
In 1893, the Bureau of the Ministry of Industry of the Public Concession bought a piece of land at Kunshan Road and Wenjianshi Road in Hongkou to build a school building, which was named “Xitong Girls Academy”, also known as “Xitong Girls School”. In 1927, it was changed into a municipal institution of the Bureau of the Ministry of Industry, and was later used as a primary school for the Japanese. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, it became the organ of the Kuomintang gendarmerie. After 1949, it served as a guest house for the People’s Liberation Army. Now it is the installation company of Shanghai Construction Engineering Group.


On December 16, 2003, the Hongkou District People’s Government announced that the former site of Xitong Girls’ School was registered as an immovable cultural relic in Hongkou District; on October 31, 2005, it was announced by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government as an excellent historical building in Shanghai.
